Take me out to the ball game....

Some of the most memorable summer nights for people who grew up near Little Rock has to be the Traveler's Games at Ray Winder Field. The smell of hot dogs and popcorn permeates the stadium, the sharp "thwack" of the baseball bat as it lands solidly on the ball for a homerun hit are memories most of us hold dear.

Every fall and spring, the baseball team can be seen in Rebsamen Park practicing for their spring season - as Parkview Patriot players. The coach this year is Mr. Jerry Bruce, who believes that baseball is a tool that can impact students in a positive way. "We strive to teach young men how to handle adversity and success. We want our student athletes to understand the importance of working with others to accomplish more than individual success. We celebrate individual accomplishments, but want our players to learn teamwork, and coming together to accomplish shared goals," Bruce said.

Coach Bruce said he wants to encourage all students who are interested to tryout for the Parkview High School Baseball team, and to be prepared to give their best every day on the field. Competitive baseball involves weightlifting and conditioning, and learning to run short distances at great speeds. Baseball players will learn great eye and hand coordination - and the ability to think quickly on the field.

Tryouts for baseball begin the first week of September, and the season normally starts during the last week of February.

Student athletes must have a 2.5 minimum GPA and a physical release from their physician to make the Parkview team.
