Some of the most memorable summer nights people who grew up near Little Rock has to be the Traveler's Games at Ray Winder Field. The smell of hot dogs and popcorn permeates the stadium, and the sharp "thwack" of the baseball bat as it lands solidly on the ball for a homerun hit are memories most of us hold dear.
Every summer and spring, the baseball team can be seen in Rebsamen Park practicing for the summer season - as Parkview Patriot players. Three students in the past four years have gone to college on baseball scholarships - and with any luck, they may be the ones charming our children at the Travelers games some summer night.
Competitive baseball involves weightlifting and conditioning, and learning to run short distances at great speeds. Baseball players need great eye and hand coordination - and the ability to think quickly on the field. Williams prepares players for these games.
Tryouts for baseball begin in mid to late September, and the season normally starts during the last week of February.
Student athletes must have a 2.5 minimum GPA and a physical release from their physician to make the Parkview team.
